Is Sharon Davis Mocking Cancer Victims?

This article from last week's San Francisco Chronicle still haunts me. Sharon Davis, California's First Lady, equates the Davis recall effort with "finding out you have cancer." I have no idea whether or not Mrs. Davis has battled cancer, or even had someone close to her succumb to the disease. But I find it troublesome that such a careless analogy went unnoticed. That she even let it slip to begin with is tasteless. The ultimate consequence of a cancer patient's loss is self-evident, as is that of an early exit for Gray Davis --- a posh consultancy job, in the tradition of the two dull-as-dishwater gentlemen who preceded him.

I hope that the once-happy couple now visited by this epic tragedy can find solace in Senator Clinton's memoir, which Governor Davis attests to being the hot read in their home. Perhaps they can find new ways to (1) lose friends and alienate people (to steal a current book title); (2) blame an amorphous vast right-wing conspiracy for forcing over one and a half million people to sign a recall petition; and (3) further delude themselves into thinking that the Clintons are the portrait of emotional and psychological fortitude.

But what else can one expect from California's most chilling, arrogant and paranoid political figure since Richard Nixon?
