Letter to Jill
The following is a revised edition of a letter I e-mailed to Jill Stewart in the wee hours of Monday morning. She is one of the better, if not the best, reporters covering Sacramento politics.

Thank you for your most recent columns on your website and in the Sacramento News & Review. I agree with your contention that the continued hammering of the abortion issue is really a non-issue that journalistic lightweights try to implicate at every opportunity. What is the realistic difference between the pro-choice Schwarzenegger, who is for parental notification laws and a ban on partial-birth abortion, and the pro-life McClintock, who supports such measures but "not initiate" them (as reported by The Sacramento Bee). The first question in the debate asked of McClintock was as close to an ad hominem attack that I've ever seen done under the auspices of journalistic inquiry. While I disagree with McClintock on the issues of abortion and gay marriage, I support him for for the rest of his platform, which he has consistently articulated since day one of his gubernatorial campaign and throughout his legislative career.
Schwarzenegger's opposition to Proposition 54 will be the last straw for the conservative base. It is tantamount to him having a prayer breakfast with Jesse Jackson and the other racemongers who've had their proverbial bread buttered by turning racial preferences into a cottage industry. This is further proof that the Terminator is a bobblehead when it comes to public policy -- feet on the dashboard, plastic smile, and an intellect that is continually shaken by the Wilsonian insiders. The following excerpt from a recent article on Human Events online fortified my view that Schwarzenegger is beholden to Wilson, et. al.:
"McClintock likes to claim the moral high ground as the conservative candidate. But what sort of conservative distorts reality to pursue a political vendetta against a fellow Republican (as McClintock does with the 1991 sales tax increase), and puts personal ego and ambition before the possibility of electing a Republican to the Governor's office (as he seems to gleefully do in his role of spoiling Schwarzenegger's chances)?"
What is the Schwarzenegger campaign, if not a grand exercise in "personal ego and ambition"? And for those of us who care to remember, there is a reason that Mr. McClintock received zero money from the state party in the waning days of last year's campaign -- and it wasn't because he was in a position to pursue a "political vendetta" against an ex-governor who still to a large extent holds the party's purse strings. The vendetta is an unspoken personal one carried out by Mr. Wilson and his allies.
I look forward to the erection of the Pete Wilson statue in San Diego, if only to see the happy inevitablity of his likeness being covered with guano.
